The next talk is at Ecgwins Club, 117 High Street, at 7.30 on 11 March by Georgia Smith. She is the Tewkesbury Town Centre Programme Manager and will be telling us all about her work on the Tewkesbury High Street Heritage Action Zone. Its programme ran from 2020 to 2024, investing over £2m in the historic town centre. Part of a nationwide initiative, the Borough Council was successful in securing £1m funding from Historic England which was matched by local funds from the Council and local businesses.
The programme delivered projects across a number of themes:
-
grants to improve shop fronts and façades
-
grants to bring upper floors back into residential use
-
projects to enhance public spaces in the town centre
-
projects to build awareness and understanding of the town’s heritage buildings
-
cultural events linked to the town’s heritage.
All welcome. Guests £5 per head.
